Worm
  • A program or executable code module which resides in distributed systems or networks. It will replicate itself, if necessary, in order to exercise as much of the system's resources as possible for its own processing. Such resources may take the form of CPU time, I/O channels, or system memory. (NCSC-WA-001-85;) 2. A worm is a program that can run on its own and can propagate itself to other machines on a network. A worm can be a useful tool for distributing information such as mail, or it can be used to spread a time bomb or trojan horse - if it can gain access to the host. (IC;)
