Compromising Emanations
  • Electromagnetic emanations that may convey data and that, if intercepted and analyzed, may compromise sensitive information being processed by an ADP system (FIPS PUB 39;)
  • Unintentional data-related or intelligence-bearing signals which, if intercepted and analyzed, disclose the classified information transmission received, handled or otherwise processed by any information processing equipment. TEMPEST is an unclassified short name referring to investigations and studies of compromising emanations. It is sometimes used synonymously for the "compromising emanations".
